“When you do an interview with me, you’re talking to a cheap imitation of the person that I really am. There’s no magic in my words; it’s just me talking. Where it matters is the magic of making music. You have that unbelievable effect. You are really almost doing open-heart surgery on people through a stereo system. That’s really delicate stuff. Where a song goes in someone’s heart is a completely different destination than a quote from a magazine goes. And I am respectively careful and careless in that regard.” —

- John Mayer

JM Blues Week; George’s Blues | Unreleased B Sides

“So about the time I wrote ‘Comfortable’, Matt [Mangano] and I were living in the same room, and, we were hanging out and writing songs; that was a time I could write some songs, now I’m just a lazy bastard, but, I’m getting back into it; but anyway, Matt and I were sitting around and playing songs to each other and passing the guitar back and forth and giving each other words to rhyme in a song and improv on, Matt was giving me a word, I did it and handed it back to him and he did a word and handed it back to me and I did a word, and I told him that the word to rhyme was orange, knowing that there wasn’t any perfect rhyme for the word orange…and Matt one-upped me anyway. This is the song that he wrote:” -JM

Sweet orange blues.

When John Mayer finds a wife, he’ll finally be able to take it easy.

Lots of things will change. For one, the gossip-hound paparazzi knuckleheads won’t bother him as much as they do now. Just recently, this is what happened: He was leaving a New York City restaurant, his then-girlfriend and…

“So when you’re not feeling so high, you turn to music. God bless that. Sometimes you go through troubles, you go through problems and you hit an obstacle and you go ‘this isn’t in the contract, what the hell is happening?’ And when you listen to blues music there’s a certain feeling that blues music has that’s half sorry for itself, and half chest up. So this side of your chest is bleeding, but this side of your chest has got a fist to it. And that’s what blues music is like to me. And sometimes when you have a problem that you just want to go into like a [starts singing “Fix You” by Coldplay] and that’ll work sometimes. And other times it’s like a [sings “Sledgehammer” by Peter Gabriel] and then other times when you got a problem but you want to feel your problem, but you don’t want to give into it all the way, you want that blues feeling.” —John Mayer (via onlyhereandnow)
